Lake Hollingsworth
This large urban lake, named for John Henry Hollingsworth, who lived here in the nineteenth century, has always provided surprises to visitors, and rest and recreation for locals. Often thought of as Lakeland's centerpiece, Lake Hollingsworth, is the focal point of many social gatherings. Home of the annual Orange Cup Regatta, marathons, walk-abouts, & small fairs - there is always a "buzz" at Lake Hollingsworth. Surrounding the circumference of the water is a walking trail where everyday, no matter the time, you will find people site-seeing, exercising, or simply relaxing waterside.
Many birdwatchers flock to Hollingsworth, which is known for its excellent bird sightings, especially for Roseate spoonbills, pelicans, wood storks, dunlins and black-bellied plovers. On the lake you will find other historic landmarks, such as Lakeland Yacht Club & the prestigious Florida Southern College, where world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed many buildings that still stand today.
